Last week, as I’m sure most of you know, was Valentine’s Day. But for me, more importantly, it was Thursday. Which meant it was time for blues dancing at the Blues Union. 🙂 I thought that perhaps due to the holiday, not many people would come out dancing. Of course, if anything, the opposite happened. Almost all of the “regulars” were there. And some new faces as well, which I assume were people bringing dates and whatnot to blues dancing. But overall, it was the normal good time at the Blues Union.
There was the normal Friday night swing dance at Boston Swing Central, which I went to. What I had forgotten was that this was a themed dance. Specifically, a Valentine’s themed swing dance. I remembered this, however, upon walking in. The Valentine’s cards and the people with little outfits delivering them to people on the dance floor were a bit of a giveaway. I briefly wondered if I should leave, having not dressed accordingly (red, pink, etc.), not having even remotely thought about doing Valentines at the swing dance. But I ended up staying, and of course, was glad I did.
There was a great live band playing called Professor Cunningham & His Old School. They played a great array of swing tunes, all of which were a blast to dance to. And as it turned out, not knowing about the whole “theme” thing didn’t in any way hamper my having fun just dancing the night away. Plenty of people were in the same boat, as it turned out. It seems like I keep learning that dancing is fun, no matter the circumstance. 🙂
