So last weekend marked a big occasion for Boston Swing Central. Specifically, last weekend marked BSC’s 5th birthday. So naturally, at their weekly Friday dance, it was time to celebrate! The band for the week was the Beantown Swing Orchestra, who played some great sets. I wasn’t sure what to expect, as I’d heard some mixed reviews, but as soon as they played a swing version of “Under the Sea” from “The Little Mermaid”, I was sold (I love me some Disney songs 🙂 ). They even played a swing version of the Game of Thrones Theme, though truth be told I didn’t recognize it in its altered form. They played some great classics as well, including “In the Mood” and “Sing, Sing, Sing”. They were well-rehearsed, and had a great overall sound to them. They were definitely able to get everyone up and moving. A great night of dancing was had by all.
And not only did they have great music, but they had free cake! And lots of it! 🙂 They actually wanted people to eat as much of it as possible, since it was ice cream cake, they wanted people to eat it before it melted. Needless to say, plenty of folks were more than willing to oblige them, myself included. 😛
Another thing that made the night a lot of fun was that the crowd attending the dance was pretty huge. I actually saw a couple of friends who’d been off the dance floor for far to long, which was great!
It was generally really cool to see how many people were enthused about celebrating the 5th anniversary of Boston Swing Central bringing people together to enjoy swing dancing. This is another one of those big events that would be a fantastic way for beginners to check out the world of social swing dancing, if you’re interested.
