One of the great things about social dancing is that it can be a great way to “get away from it all” for a little while. On occasions when I feel down or am going through something tough, I make it a priority to get out and dance, even if I don’t feel like it. And without fail, I always leave the dance feeling a million times better than when I first got there.
Dance is one of the few things I’ve found that can help me truly forget my troubles and just have a good time. You’re very “in the moment” when you’re dancing, so you really can’t focus on your stresses, your deadlines, and all that other stuff.
At Swingin’ on the Charles, a friend and I were actually talking about how it’s almost impossible not to have fun at a swing dance. 🙂 Of course, there are nights when you feel like not going; you’re tired, it’s so far away, etc…but we agreed that those are the nights that are the best ones to get out on the dance floor! Nothing can get a lethargic “meh” mood to do a 180 faster than dancing, in my humble opinion.
At social dances, you’re of course surrounded by other people. Generally speaking, most/all of these people are having a great time dancing with one another. And this positive vibe is quite infectious. Being social in and of itself can be enough to lift one’s spirits if you’re having a bad day. But add into that the joy of dancing? Dancing + people = Happy. Or something like that. 😛
